DESCRIPTION:This 8-hour certification will take place October 25\, 2019.\n\
nSomeone you know could be experiencing a mental illness or crisis. Can
you help them??\n\nYou are more likely to encounter someone – friend\, f
amily member\, co-worker\, neighbor\, or member of the community – in an
emotional or mental health crisis than someone having a heart attack. M
ental Health First Aid teaches a 5-step action plan to offer initial help
to people with the signs and symptoms of a mental illness or in a crisis a
nd connect them with the appropriate professional\, peer\, social\, or sel
f-help care.\n\nMHFA is an evidence-based program that is being used inter
nationally. \n\n Identify mental health crises and concerns\n Provide h
elp\, comfort\, and support to promote and enhance recovery\n Preserve li
fe when a person may be a danger to self or others\n Identify signs &\
; symptoms of common mental health disorders\,\n Build awareness of commu
nity resources for mental health\n Understand stigma associated with ment
al illness and its effects\n\nALGEE\, the Mental Health First Aid Action P
lan\n\nAssess for risk of suicide or harm\n\nListen non-judgmentally\n\nGi
ve reassurance and information\n\nEncourage appropriate professional help\
n\nEncourage self-help and other support strategies\n\nLENGTH: 8 hours\n\n
